The Daniel D. Garza Foundation was established to honor the memory of our son, Daniel, who passed away at the age of 2.5 from Familial Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (FHLH). We are dedicated to supporting families navigating the profound impact of traumatic loss.
Our focus is on providing vital resources, scholarships, and grief support programs. Through these initiatives, we aim to create a compassionate community where no family faces these challenges alone. By raising awareness and expanding access to grief support, we strive to foster resilience and hope in Daniel’s memory.
Join us in our mission to make a meaningful difference for those experiencing loss and to honor Daniel’s legacy.

Whether you’re looking to support students, contribute to our mission, or explore our grief support programs, you can make a difference today. Choose how you’d like to get involved:

The Daniel D. Garza Foundation was established by Niesia Garza in memory of her son, Daniel, who died from a rare blood disorder in 2009. As the Founder and Executive Director, Niesia holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Registered Play Therapist (RPT), and a certified Compassionate Bereavement Care provider.
Her personal journey through grief inspired her to create the foundation, which provides resources, scholarships, and grief support programs for those navigating traumatic loss. The foundation aims to foster a compassionate community where no family faces such challenges alone, while also raising awareness about traumatic grief, educating the public, and supporting research efforts to advance the understanding and treatment of rare disorders like HLH.
With her clinical expertise, Niesia leads the Daniel D. Garza Foundation in its mission to empower those grieving and inspire hope through education, advocacy, and a commitment to supporting individuals and families.
The Daniel D. Garza Foundation was a lifeline during one of the darkest times in my life. After losing my son, I didn’t know where to turn. The grief support group helped me feel heard and understood. The resources they provided gave me the strength to start healing. I am forever grateful for this incredible community that has helped me navigate the toughest journey a parent can face
When I first heard about the Daniel D. Garza Foundation, I was hesitant to reach out. But after losing my wife, I realized I needed support. The scholarship I received allowed me to continue my education and honor my wife’s memory. This foundation not only helped me cope but also gave me hope for the future. I’m so thankful for their guidance and the impact they’ve made on my life.
“As a mother who lost my child too soon, I felt alone in my grief. The Daniel D. Garza Foundation’s programs gave me the tools I needed to cope and introduced me to others who shared my pain. The awareness campaigns have opened my eyes to the importance of supporting families like mine. I am now part of a community that understands, and for that, I will be forever grateful.”

When you give, you help families find their way through grief and loss. Your generosity powers our work to raise awareness, provide scholarships, and offer grief support services. Every gift, regardless of size, makes a meaningful difference for those facing life's most challenging moments.
